Welcome Graeme Fineman
Senators Director of Baseball Operations
January 2022
Arlington Senior Babe Ruth and the Senators welcome Graeme Fineman as the Senators’ Director of Baseball Operations. Graeme has both played and coached in the ASBR and Senators’ programs and is currently a pitching coach at Yorktown High School. Among other things, in this role Graeme will be able to focus his attention on the hiring of coaches and specialty instructors, ensure that quality instruction and developmental goals are achieved and will work to introduce tournament play beginning this spring.
The Senator’s programming is designed to compliment the offerings of the ASBR recreational program. In addition to providing competitive recreational play, the rec program provides competitive tournament play through an All-Star tournament trail during the summer.
The Senator’s offering is unique in that it is neighborhood focused. We are fortunate as Arlingtonians to have tremendous facilities that are made available to our players. The Senator’s program is designed to allow friends to continue playing baseball together with the goal of preparing those players for high school baseball, and beyond.
Welcome John Foti
Interim General Manager
January 2022
John Foti, ASBR board member, will assist Graeme as the new Interim General Manager, which will include the business and administration responsibilities of the organization.

Senators -- New Season, New Structure, Same Senators Way!
Based on constructive feedback, the Arlington Senators are going to make some changes to our program in this upcoming spring season that we feel will continue our goal of making the program the best tool for developing high school-caliber ballplayers—the core mission of Arlington Senators Baseball.
These will include:
A More Limited Number of Teams
While we were delighted to give so many players an opportunity to play Senators Baseball this past fall, it did put a strain on coaching and field resources. Those resources will become more scarce in the spring. Therefore, Senators Baseball will be fielding two 13-year-old and one 14-year old team for the spring 2022 season.
We will continue to limit each team’s roster to 14 players. This does mean that our February tryouts will be just that, and we will may not be able to offer a spring roster spot to all fall players. We may consider a second 14-year-old team if we think we have the players, but we will not guarantee a second team.
Increased Coaching for Senators’ Players
The decrease in number of teams/players in the program will give us the ability to focus our talented coaching staff on player development. We will continue to guarantee two coaches per team (Head Coach and Assistant) and also will provide other “roving” coaches in our program to give more in-depth instruction on both individual position development as well as team play.
Tournament Play for All Teams
Coach Fineman believes strongly that tournament play is a valuable “measuring stick” for both individual and team development. We will schedule all teams to play in two tournaments during the spring season; one at the beginning and another mid-season. If the opportunity presents, we will consider adding a third tournament at the end of the season. Two of these tournaments will likely require an overnight hotel stay. Senators Baseball will have more travel than in years past.
More Games
In addition to the regular Sunday doubleheaders, we will add weekday games against other local travel programs. We will continue to consult closely with Arlington Senior Babe Ruth coaches to ensure that we keep pitcher arms healthy as we combine the required ASBR rec league play with our own. But the depth and interest in our pitchers, we believe, will benefit from additional opportunities for game reps.
Team Selection, Requirements, & Fees
Team selection will occur shortly after the tryouts. Once your player has been selected for a team, you will be required to provide a deposit of $600 to hold the spot. That payment will be required within 48 hours of your offer. A final payment of $600 will be required at the beginning of the season. There will be no “end of season” final payments. The total for the spring season (including tournament fees) will be $1,200.
Arlington Senior Babe Ruth spring (ASBR) rec league registration is open now. A reminder that all Senators players are REQUIRED to also play in the spring rec league. We encourage you to sign up by February 1 to take advantage of the early discount. Register here: ArlingtonSeniorBabeRuth.com
Players who are 14 years old and plan to try out for their high school Varsity or JV teams—please register for the Alliance League. We will move you to the American League (with our congratulations!) when you join your high school team. The American League will have an abbreviated season and will begin after the high school season ends.
If you made the Senators AND your high school team, we do NOT expect you to do both. We recommend you play with your school team. Your Senators spring season deposit will be refunded. Make sure you are registered for the ASBR American League, since ASBR Summer All-Stars teams also require spring ASBR rec league participation. These teams will not begin to play until after the high school season ends. Last year, both the 13s and 14s ASBR All-Stars teams advanced to the regional tournament. These are highly competitive teams that are also lots of fun for players and families.
Players who are 13 years old—please register for the Prep League.
Graeme and I are both very excited to get the season started and elevate these players to a new level. Even with these changes, however, we will always do things The Senators Way! Be Safe. Be 1st Class. Have Fun!
